"What's for Dinner?" at Galerie Gmurzynska

Wednesday night, Victory Club members spent their evening at Galerie Gmurzynska, a Zurich-based art gallery that is known for its modern, contemporary and Russian avant-garde exhibitions. The current exhibit, “What’s For Dinner?”, surrounded the theme of food and art.

Martin Friedrichs, the gallery’s director, started the tour by showing off Robert Indiana’s piece, “For”, explaining the possible meanings it, and how neither the text nor the graphic was exactly a fork.

Martin then went on to describeWill Cotton’s “Delicious” (2008). The work itself includes 9 dummy cakes stacked on top of one another, looking like they are about to collapse. One extraordinary aspect of this sculpture is how life-like it is.

Several more pieces of art were showed off by Martin throughout the tour, including images by Rodchenko, “Tunnel of Love” by Marjorie Strider, “Speck” by Kurt Switters and “Three Meringues” by Wayne Thiebaud.

Of course, the tour would not be complete without some bites and sweets! Featured are custom Ladurée macaroons and a signature Chefanie sheet cake, along with some champagne to top it off.

Come Back To Top 40

Afternoon at 10 Corso Como

This afternoon, Victory Club members visited 10 Corso Como, the New York outpost of Carla Sozzani’s Milanese concept store that brings together the visual arts, culinary arts, and fashion in the South Street Seaport. The visit began with a tour of Steve Hiett’s photographs.

Ali Price, the gallery manager at 10 Corso Como, explained Hiett’s legacy within the fashion world, the differences between editorial photography and fine art photography, and the history of 10 Corso Como with Steve Hiett.

“Whether I take them in Paris or Miami, my photographs are middle-class stories of the suburbs; they’re about being alone and dreaming,” Hietts said. The works in his exhibition, “Beyond Blond,” show exactly that.

After the gallery tour, Victory Club members enjoyed a meal in 10 Corso Como’s restaurant, which Food & Wine called “The Most Italian Restaurant in NYC.”

Lunch with Elizabeth Sutton

Victory Club members and friends enjoyed lunch and an art talk at the home of artist Elizabeth Sutton

Chefanie and Elizabeth met at Sushi of Gari on 46th Street, where Elizabeth was commissioned to create flower paintings to decorate the restaurant. At the intersection of food and art, the idea for a Victory Club luncheon inspired by Elizabeth's work was born. Elizabeth's work is recognizable for its use of bright colors, and for the luncheon, Chefanie created a meal inspired by Elizabeth's art.
